The Natural Way to Draw - Example Schedule

The Natural Wat to Draw is made up of 25 Sections each containing 15 hours of drawing exercises.

Each section contains a table like this breaking the section into 5 three hour lessons.

Lesson A has 5 exercises

  • Half hour Contour drawing (1 drawing)
  • Half hour Contour drawing (1 drawing)
  • Quarter hour Contour drawing (1 drawing)
  • Quarter hour Rest
  • Half hour Contour drawing (1 drawing)
  • One hour Contour drawing (1 or 2 drawings)

Lesson B has 5 exercises

  • Half hour Gesture drawing (25 drawings)
  • Half hour Contour drawing (1 drawing)
  • Quarter hour Gesture drawing (15 drawings)
  • Quarter hour Rest
  • Half hour Gesture drawing (25 drawings)
  • One hour Contour drawing (1 or 2 drawings)

etc.

Kimon Nicolaides states this division into 5 lessons is one way of organising the material and the student can divide the work into smaller sessions. My schedule was to complete one of the lessons in the table each week and I did this (mostly) by completing one of the exercises each weekday evening.

  1. Thank you for your explanation, Mark!

I am particularly grateful for sharing your personal schedule (1 exercise a day): I confess I took lesson 1 in stride (3h in 1 and a half day) and I found it daunting: your pace makes far more sense... :D
